CAMPING

Above: Artist's Rendition of Festival Grounds
GREY FOX has a new home. The four day event is now held on the Walsh Farm in Oak Hill, NY, in Greene County on the northern edge of the beautiful Catskill Mountains.
ON-SITE CAMPING (Click for PDF of above plan / (street plan) All camping at Grey Fox is camping-in-the-rough which simply means field camping with no water or electrical hook-ups. All types of tents, popups and RVs are welcome. The camping area is entirely flat and grassy. To make the camping area safer and more spacious, we encourage all campers to park vehicles in the car corral (see section below) .
A "High Meadow" on the west end of the Walsh Farm is available for tent camping without vehicles. We will give you a ride up to the High Meadow on Wednesday and Thursday (until noon) and we'll give you a ride out on Sunday. Campers in the "high meadow" will park in the Car Corral and be eligible to win cool prizes (see below).
WHO CAN CAMP?
Anyone with a FULL FESTIVAL TICKET can camp. Camping is included in the price of the full festival ticket. Camping at Grey Fox begins Wednesday at noon and ends Sunday evening at 7 pm. See arrival procedures below. We sell only 4000 camping tickets, and we usually sell out prior to opening day, so we strongly suggest purchasing tickets early. Camping is only available with the purchase of a FULL FESTIVAL TICKET. Visitors with day tickets must leave the premises following the close of the Main Stage show each night.
CAN I CAMP AT GREY FOX EARLY? No, we cannot allow camping before Wed, July 16 (see arrival procedures below), but a group called "The Liners" will be camped and "lollygagging" at a farm about three miles from Grey Fox beginning a week prior to Grey Fox. For information, amenities, directions, etc. visit the Liner Web Site or email Scott. The Liner Party is a completely separate event, not connected to Grey Fox. For a list of commercial campgrounds in the area, contact Greene County Tourism.
GREY FOX OPENING DAY ARRIVAL PROCEDURES FOR CAMPERS
1. Camping gates will open at noon on Wednesday, July 16. We will begin lining up campers in our parking lot at 9am Wednesday, not a minute before. Do not arrive before 9am. You will not be permitted to enter the site until 9, and local police will not allow you to park along the road, so plan your arrival accordingly. Better yet, relax! Come a little later and avoid the traffic jam. There's plenty of room for everyone with a camping ticket! Bring whatever you need to be comfortable. Check out our What
to Bring page.
2. Camping spaces may be no more than 20x25 feet per campsite. Campers who arrive on Wednesday may save two camping spaces in addition to their own (for a total of 20x75 feet). Space may be saved until the start of the music on Thursday at 2pm. At that time, others looking for camping spots may begin filling in empty spaces. If you need help finding camping space,
our Camping Crew will be on hand to assist you.
3. RVs that will be using their generators will camp in a designated RV section of the campground. If you're not going to use your generator during the festival, we may be able to accommodate you in the general camping area if there is room -- to be determined on a case by case basis. If you need hookups please visit our Lodging page for links to campgrounds close by or call Greene County Tourism at 1-800-355-CATS.
4. If you'd like to camp with your friends who are coming separately, we strongly suggest that you hook up with them off site and drive in together. The good folks at the Milk Run (just one mile from the festival) have a 16-acre parking lot, which is a great place to meet up with fellow campers. The Milk Run is a combination gas station, convenience store and restaurant that serves up some very good food -- located at 3552 Route 145, East Durham, NY 12422, at the corner of Rts 145 and 27.
PICKERS PARADISE vs. QUIET CAMPING:
Grey Fox is famous for its late-night jamming. Depending on
whether you pick late or turn in early, you can set up camp
in our Pickers Paradise or Quiet Camping areas once you get
there.
CAR CORRAL
Don't need your car at your campsite? Make your camp roomier by parking
unneeded vehicles in the CAR CORRAL (now within easy walking distance from all campsites). After finding a campsite and unloading your stuff, drop your car in the Car Corral for the weekend. For each vehicle parked in the Car Corral, we'll enter your
name to win COOL PRIZES throughout
the weekend and a Grand Prize of a FREE CAMPING TICKET to
next year's festival.
CREATURE COMFORTS:
- Hot showers (for a small fee)
- Fresh drinking water
- Portable toilets & handwashing stations
- 24-hour first aid and security
- Excellent food vendors
- Camping supplies for sale
- Unique c raft, music, jewelry, clothing and gift vendors
OTHER RULES, GUIDELINES & SUGGESTIONS:
• No glass. Broken glass, barefoot children and hay farms just don't mix.
• No pets. Sorry, we do not allow pets at Grey Fox. Here is a list of Kennels in the area. Be sure to find out papers and vaccinations your pet needs before leaving home.
• No open ground fires! Contained cook fires such as hibachis or propane cook stoves
are okay. Be prepared! Bring a fire extinquisher and keep it handy.
• Use garbage and recycling bins properly and keep your campsite clean. Remember, we're on a farm that produces hay for dairy cows to munch. Dispose of anything that might make animals
sick such as cigarette butts, instrument strings, plastic bags, paper, etc.
• Bring your CAN TABS to the Information Booth! Our civic-minded web gurus, the Thirsty Lizards, will deliver your donated can tabs to a Shriners Hospital where they will help buy medical equipment for sick kids!
