PETE WERNICK'S BLUEGRASS JAM CAMP
Monday-Thursday ~ July 13-16, 2009
Four days with the real deal - Dr. Banjo himself!
Closet pickers, this is for you! With Pete Wernick (Dr. Banjo) you'll be up and picking in time for some hot jamming at Grey Fox! You'll wonder why you didn't do this earlier!
- All bluegrass instruments welcome.
- All skill levels welcome.
- No jamming experience necessary.
- A message from Pete about this year's Jam Camp ...
Joan and I are really pleased to be offering our jam camp again at the Oak Hill Firehouse, right next to the festival. We are trying a new thing this year, due to transportation factors (coming from NE Wyoming the Sunday before camp!): We will just have a 2-5pm session on Monday to get rolling, then three full days culminating in our two songs on stage at the festival. Early discounts are in effect, and we do need-based discounts for less common instruments. Here's a link to Pete's web site's info on his 2009 JAM CAMP at OAK HILL.
We've heard many great success stories from former closet pickers who've attended our camp. We understand how anxious folks can be, so we keep it easy and gentle for novices, while still providing challenges for intermediates. Only G, D, C, and A chords required. No soloing required!
You'll find LOTS of articles about our camps (including a recent one in Readers Digest) and information about registering at Dr. Banjo.com. We hope you'll join us.
Pete Wernick's Jam Camp performing on the Main Stage, July 2005
Pete Wernick’s Bluegrass Jam Camp is a combination of classroom and hands-on instruction by an experienced, understanding teacher. The focus is on playing music in a social context. You will be grouped with others according to experience, and do a lot of jamming, sometimes guided, sometimes on your own, with lots of hands-on individualized help.A friendly, "safe" situation to learn. Lots of jamming, everyone participating at their own level. You will be jamming the first morning!
Pete will give group and individual pointers on instrumental technique, harmony singing, and the how-to’s of a variety of jam situations. Pete will show you how to be in a bluegrass jam session, fitting in at your own ability level.
Learn:
- How to follow chords to new songs and play along comfortably
- The basics of simple soloing - even when you don’t know the song!
- Standard jam procedure and etiquette
How You Qualify - It's easier than you may think! If you play guitar, mandolin, banjo, fiddle, bass, resonator guitar, even autoharp or dulcimer, you can be part of a bluegrass jam. All bluegrass instruments, all skill levels welcome.
Only requirements: You must be able to tune your instrument (electronic tuning devices welcome) and change smoothly between G, C, D, and A. Fast playing is not expected, nor is the ability to solo required.
YOU CAN do it! And you'll be glad you did!
