Grey Fox Volunteer Crews
Front Gate Crew Handles ticket sales and ticket/wristband exchange at festival entrance. Requires working with money; attention to detail; greeting the public, and providing helpful information. Retail experience is a plus. Front gate shifts begin Wed festival week, at 8 am.
Traffic & Safety Crew Maintains safe traffic flow, parks cars, and ensures general safety throughout the festival campgrounds. Serve as eyes and ears for Festival Security. Most of the crew works on foot, but there is also a small Mountain Bike Patrol. T&S operates 24-hours, so a night schedule is available. T&S begins Wednesday festival week, at 8 am. Volunteers should arrive by Tuesday for check-in and assignment. Minimum age is 18 for this crew.
Concession Crew-Festival Food Concession. Food preparation, cooking, grilling, clean-up, restocking, order taking, and cashier work. Crew is subdivided into the (a) Breakfast Crew, and (b) Lunch/Dinner Crew, and (early) set up. This crew also runs the Grey Fox Lemonade stand. Minimum age is 18 for Concession Crew, unless prior arrangements are made with Ginger.
Trash/Recycling Crew Picks up trash and handles recycling twice a day (by truck). Keeps amphitheater and concession area clean. Heavy lifting required. Bring work gloves, work shoes, rain gear, sun screen and a great sense of humor. A fun crew! This crew gets Free Hot Showers! They even have their own Garbage Olympics! First shift is Wed festival week, at 9 am.
Hospitality Crew Prepares and serves food to volunteers and staff, supplies backstage food service for artists and festival guests. Crews include: breakfast, lunch, and dinner with limited opportunity for pre-festival crew (Mon-Thurs) available for returning crew members. Hospitable and relaxed attitude required, as is capacity for hard work in hot conditions. Shifts begin Wednesday at noon.
Family Stage & Teen Crew Assist program coordinator with kids' activities. Prepare craft materials. Volunteers must enjoy working with young people. Teaching, supervisory, or recreational experience with children is a plus. Adults should expect some evening hours. Family Stage activities begin Thurs festival week, at 9 am.
Emergency Services:
Specialized Crew provides Advanced Medical services, including preventative medicine to all persons at the festival. Applicants must have medical backgrounds, from First Responders to Physician and must have New York State Licensure. All applicants must be interviewed by the EMS Director. EMT's are the most needed on this crew, licensed in the state of New York.
Information Booth and Credential Check This crew serves two functions. Info Booth volunteers answer questions, provide information about the site and surrounding community, and oversee the Lost & Found. Credential Check crew monitors back stage access. All crew members are cross-trained for both. Prior volunteer service is required. You must be resourceful, patient, and friendly, and a good communicator. Crew duties begin Wednesday morning festival week. Shifts run from early morning until one hour past the end of the last performance of the day. Due to the location change, there is a required meeting Wednesday morning."
Media Crew - Photographs or shoots video of all aspects of the festival both day and night, from the main stage and dance stage to smaller stages, images around the festival, of vendors, sponsors, bluegrass academy, volunteers and staff workers, providing a broad range of images and/or videos from every day of the festival, from Thursday through Sunday. Members of the Media Crew will submit best-of sets of photos and videos according to Grey Fox guidelines for use in print and on the web site. All images are expected to be in digital format.
VIP Check In Checks in volunteers, artists, festival guests and press at entrance. Limited openings, prior volunteer service is required. Must have (1) good working knowledge of the festival, (2) ability to recognize and make artists and guests feel welcome (3) good communication and organizational skills.
NOTE: Volunteers must be available and ready to go to work, as noted above, unless other arrangements are made with Crew Chiefs. If you cannot arrive till Friday, it’s not likely you’ll be able to volunteer. All volunteers must work a full schedule consisting of between 16 and 20 hours, during Grey Fox.
